The swimming pool at the new Kirkby Leisure Centre has been filled with water for the first time.

As part of tests to ensure the swimming pool is watertight, 600,000 litres of water have been added to the pool.

Speaking from the side of the pool Cllr Jason Zadrozny said: “It is fantastic to see the swimming pool full of water. We have promised the residents of Kirkby a pool and we are now just months away from delivering that.

“As well as the swimming pool there will also be a children’s splash pad. Along with a state of the art climbing wall, gym, soft play, sports hall and café there really will be something for everyone.”

As part of our commitment to make the build sustainable, following testing the water will be drained and reused to test the splash pad. It will then be used for a second time to test the pipe work and drains before being put back into the water table.

The £15.5m build is on track to be completed this summer. The Council is working closely with Everyone Active to transform Ashfield’s leisure offer across the District. Hucknall Leisure Centre and Sutton in Ashfield’s Lammas Leisure Centre have each received brand-new high-quality fitness suites, rivalling any other facility in the region. Hucknall is also set to see a new swimming pool added to the site as part of an overall £22.5million investment across Ashfield.

Cllr Rachel Madden, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Health & Wellbeing said: “The Council is committed to providing high quality leisure facilities to residents. Our Leisure Transformation has provided Ashfield with some of best leisure facilities in Nottinghamshire and beyond.

“We know how important the health and wellbeing of our communities is. By the end of the summer each of our towns will have a state-of-the-art leisure centre. Kirkby leisure centre is something that the people of Ashfield have been long-promised and the Council is proud to finally be delivering it for residents.”
