Mansfield Rotary is urging News Journal readers to support the movement’s efforts nationally and internationally to support victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Rotary is backing four charities that are helping the relief efforts – AquaboxShelterBoxWater Survival Box, and Disaster Aid UK.

The president of the Mansfield club, Karen Johnson, said: “Mansfield Rotary has made an immediate donation of £500 to both the Aquabox and Shelterbox charities beause they are both well known to Mansfield Rotary. We have donated to them many times over the years and usually in response to disaster situations across the world.

“We can assure readers that donations to the charities mentioned in this article are safe havens for donations and support will reach the right people on the ground in Turkey and Syria.”

Aquabox is trying to ensure that survivors have access to clean water and is exploring ways it can get its filters into the two countries.

ShelterBox is sending an Emergency Response Team to Turkey and will discuss with Rotary district governors what the need is and how to proceed.

It is intending to launch an emergency fundraising appeal to help people who have suffered due to earthquakes and other natural disasters.

Water Survival Box is in touch with the International Medical Corps to assess the need. Initially it has 400 boxes packed, with a further 600 in the pipeline.

It is in discussions with the International Country Committee to Turkey and Hand to Hand for Syria has been contacted.  It has also opened a Big Give Appeal on its website.

Disaster Aid UK has made contact with Rotary Clubs in Turkey via Disaster Aid Europe.

Ravenshead and Blidworth Rotary has made an initial donation of £200 to the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) Turkey-Syria Earthquake Appeal.
