The annual competition is organised by Mansfield and Ashfield 2020 in partnership with Hall Fast Industrial Supplies Ltd.  Entries were open to all schools/educational bodies in Mansfield and Ashfield and this year included teams from Ashfield School, Quarrydale Academy and R.E.A.L Education.
The challenge is business led with the support of business mentors, business judges and sponsors from the local business community.  Students created their own business from scratch, and then sold their products to the general public on Mansfield Market in June. Their achievements were celebrated at the awards evening, where teams were named winners in a number of categories including Best Product, Best Team Working, Entrepreneurial Spirit and Overall Winner. The team that took the trophy for the overall winner was Bag to Nature from Quarrydale Academy.

Two special Awards were also given out.  Haydon Rawson of R.E.A.L. Education received a ‘Shining Star’ Award and Berni Dickinson was awarded a ‘Special Recognition Award’ recognizing all her hard work in initially helping to set-up Junior Enterprise in Mansfield & Ashfield in 2012 and supporting it ever since.
This year’s awards evening hosted over 60 attendees from local schools along with teachers, proud family members, sponsors and civic officials.  Not only did the evening celebrate all the young people involved but it also inspires and motivates our next generation of workforce to be the best they can be.
Former Brunts Academy student and local entrepreneur Alex Peace-Gadsby took time out of her busy schedule, which includes being Chief Commissioner England, UK Scouting to deliver a truly inspirational talk. Alex spoke passionately about how she left school not knowing exactly what she wanted to do for work.    She talked about working hard and respecting everyone you meet and work with.   She also talked about hard lessons she learned along the way and how she took charge of her own destiny.  Throughout the talk Alex presented very thought provoking ideas that the young entrepreneurs
could digest, use to motivate themselves and think about what they might do after leaving school.

Russell Jones, Chairman of Mansfield and Ashfield 2020 said, “This had been a fantastic competition.  It has picked up momentum and built a brilliant reputation within the business community, general public and schools. Next year we want more schools involved and will make it bigger and better but none of this would be possible without our business mentors, business judges and business sponsors for them we are incredibly grateful. Together this partnership is having a positive impact on our young people. We all play a role in inspiring the next generation and this is a unique platform that we know is making a difference.”
