Citizens Advice Ashfield wants people to be part of the next 80 years of its history by volunteering with them.
The Citizens Advice service started almost 80 years ago on the eve of the Second World War and is supported by 22,000 volunteers across England and Wales
As part of Volunteers’ Week, which runs from 1 June to 7 June, Citizens Advice Ashfield wants to thank current volunteers for their contribution and welcome new recruits to help bring the charity into its next 80 years.
The 44 volunteers at Citizens Advice Ashfield contributed 1000 hours last year and helped more than 7000 people with over 25000 problems, such as debt, housing, benefit and employment issues. This is the equivalent cost to the service of nearly £200,000 a year
Volunteers at Citizens Advice help us in roles such as giving our clients information and advice, raising funds, keeping the service running smoothly, and helping with the strategic direction of the organisation.

Lara, Volunteer Digital Adviser at Citizens Advice Ashfield said:
‘I have been at Ashfield Citizens Advice since the end of September 2018, about 8 months now.
My role is part of the Digital Team of advisers which means I offer advice over the telephone to clients around the county or nationally via web-chat. I help clients who may not be able to attend their local Citizens Advice. I also help the Research and Campaign Team, going out into the community for Consumer Week and Big Energy Saving Week making residents aware of the options available to them.

During my time here I’ve enjoyed meeting and making some really good friends with similar interests and sense of humour among both staff and volunteers, I also enjoy helping others. I’ve regained my confidence and feel happier within myself.’
Kathryn Stacey, CEO at Citizens Advice Ashfield said:
“Our volunteers contribute their time and energy to make a huge difference to people’s lives and help keep our vital service running. If you’d like to help people in your community, and can spare a few hours a week, we’d love to hear from you.”
