The winners of the 2021 Discover Ashfield Awards, which celebrates those that have gone above and beyond in the community have been announced.
A variety of awards were up for grabs, including three new awards recognising the work and support that has been offered during the pandemic. The judging panel, which included Discover Ashfield Chair Martin Rigley, were faced with some tough decisions. There were so many inspiring nominations, all of which have achieved so much in many different ways.
The winners are:

  • Health and Wellbeing Ambassador Award – Terry Atherton
  • Carer Award – Sharon Grocock & Peter Robinson
  • Community Ambassador Award – Lynne Ryland
  • Covid-19 Hero Award – Kate Anthony & Chef Dave Marshall
  • Covid-19 Young Hero Award Sponsored by McDonalds – Caleb Wheatley, Callum Parr, Saralee Parr & Ruth Lamb
  • Covid-19 Community Organisation Award – Let’s All Eat
  • Best of Ashfield Award – Teresa Jackson & Newstead Brass
  • Covid-19 Business Award – Swiftool
  • High Street Business of the Year – Scott & Co Fresh Fruit and Veg

 

Pete Edwards, Discover Ashfield Theme Lead for Be Happy, Be Healthy said: ‘I’d like to thank everyone that took the time to put in a nomination for this years Discover Ashfield awards. We had some fantastic entries and there were many worthy winners.
“It was an honour and a pleasure to be able to present some of the COVID-19 Young Hero winners with their awards. Health and Wellbeing is so important and it’s amazing to see young people in Ashfield championing this subject and helping to make a difference in their communities.
