May 12th marks the annual International Nurses Day. Never has the special day been more poignant with our nurses on the frontline in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
The theme for this year’s celebrations was decided last year – and equally poignantly it was set as “nursing the world to health”.
The celebrations had been set to be extra special because 2020 was designated the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, to coincide with the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth.

Now the Mansfield, Ashfield and Warsop News Journal wants to help you pay tribute to the brave local women and men putting their lives at risk in the fight against Covid-19.
And it is not just nurses who we want you to recognise. We want people to put forward any key worker who they feel deserves our thanks – whether that be other NHS staff and doctors, care workers, delivery drivers, postmen and women, supermarket workers and the thousands of other key workers who are helping to keep Mansfield, Ashfield and the country going through these troubled times.
Simply send us the name, photo (optional), working location and short message of thanks (no more than 20 words) of a nurse you want to pay tribute to (as well as your name) and we will include in a celebration feature saying thank you to the nurses and key workers of Mansfield and Ashfield online – and in our May print edition.
Email [email protected] with your message before Monday, 20th April, and please include your name.
